Salt and calcium attack the paint and undercarriage. Regular washing — including an undercarriage rinse — is the best insurance against premature rust.
A wax, sealant or ceramic protection applied in the fall creates a barrier against road salt and makes every winter wash easier.
Avoid brush car washes that micro-scratch the surface. Use a pH-neutral shampoo, the two-bucket method and quality microfiber to preserve the coating.
Wax lasts 1-2 months, sealant 3-6 months, express ceramic 3-4 months and professional coating 2-3 years. The longer the protection, the better the gloss and the easier the upkeep.
